How useful has an ideological critical approach been in understanding the binary oppositions of Trainspotting ?

Transporting isn't as explicit with its political view as most films but it is shown in its underlining themes for example binary opposites. The film was set in the the 80s and came out in the 90s and this was an era where there was a huge political divine is the UK.  Thatcherism was a massive thing in the 80s which is shown through the main character Renton who , in the first half of the film, doesn't have a job and is just doing drugs and going home and living a really boring suberbon  house hold with his parent but in the second half of the film when Renton goes clean he moved to London and gets a job as an estate agent which was the one of the only jobs That didn't face major unemployment rates under Thatcherism. Mark  at this point in the film really embodies what Thatcherism is all about, its all about the individual and not community. This is exactly what Mark does, he leaves all his friends and family to start a new life in London of all places, at a time where Scotland was pretty much though to the side by Thatcher with their taxes increasing
